PWC redistricting plan approved

Prince William County’s redistricting plan was approved by the U.S. Department of Justice. The county was required to seek clearance for its map, according to the Voting Rights Act.
Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, said the approval shows the “district lines … were fair and equitable to the demographics and population of Prince William County, and the Department of Justice agreed,” he said in a statement.
The Board of County Supervisors passed the plan April 18 through a unanimous vote.
The new plan, according to a county press release, redrew the boundaries of the seven magisterial districts to account for the dramatic growth in the county’s population during the past 10 years and the uneven distribution of the additional population. The county has grown more than 43 percent since 2000, from 280,813 to 402,002 in April 2010.
New voter cards will come from the registrar with information on new voting districts and locations.
