On Thursday, April 9, at 3:15 p.m., the bell in the Occoquan Town Hall rang to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse and the end of the American Civil War.
This was part of a nationwide ringing of bells organized by the National Park Service. The Town Hall bell rang for four minutes—one minute for each year of the war, according to Earnie Porta, former mayor of Occoquan.
