An eight-man crew of City of Manassas Electric Department workers is asking for the community’s help in providing Christmas for a family of nine – a single mother and her eight children, ranging in age from 5 to 17.
Robert Connors, one of the electric crew members, says each crew member has make a generous donation but more support is needed to help the family have a nice holiday.
The crew received the name of the needy family from the Department of Social Services.
Connors said, “There are a lot of families out there that can not afford to have a Christmas this year. My hope in doing this is to make sure Christmas dreams come true for some families this year. As I work for the City of Manassas Electric Line crew, I deal with the public every day and see the hard times families are going through.
He went on to say,” So we have found a family in need and would love to help them out this holiday. “This really makes me sad. Some of my greatest memories are waking up on Christmas morning and running out to the living room to see all the presents under the tree. Not every kid this Christmas will experience that feeling, and if I can help one family experience that feeling that I felt every Christmas, it would make me the happiest man on earth.”
The group has established a goal of $2000 and a “gofundme” online account to accept donations for the family’s Christmas from the community.
