A fire in a two-story single family home in the 7300 block of Old Carolina Road in Gainesville occurred May 4 about 9:30 p.m. Fire and rescue units responded to the scene; home occupants met the firefighters to say everyone was safely evacuated. Smoke was coming from the second floor.
Firefighters discovered light smoke on the first and second floor. They encountered heavy smoke and heat emitting from one of the bedrooms on the second floor, where they discovered fire in a closet, which was the fire’s origin. Six occupants were home at the time of the fire; however, no injuries were reported. Prince William County Police assisted with traffic and scene control. The Fire Marshal’s Office estimated $10,000 worth of property damage.
No cause of the fire had been determined, according to the county’s department of fire and rescue.
