The Quicken Loans National golf tournament, which raises funds and awareness for the Tiger Woods Foundation and local charities, while paying tribute to our armed forces, will play its 2015 edition at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, according to a news release.
Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, which holds the namesake of architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., is a par-72, 7,425 yard course that has hosted the Presidents Cup four times, including the 1994 inaugural event in addition to the 1996, 2000 and 2005 events.
The Quicken Loans National, which will be contested at Congressional Country Club June 23-29, 2014, invites 120 top PGA TOUR professionals worldwide to compete for their share of a $6.5 million purse. Past champions include K.J Choi, Anthony Kim, Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Nick Watney and Bill Haas.
The tournament will return to Bethesda, Md., at Congressional Country Club in 2016 and be held there in 2018 and ’20. A course location for 2017 and 2019 will be identified at a later date.
Tiger Woods was quoted in the news release as saying, “We are excited to keep our tournament in the D.C. area and to be playing at these great golf courses,” Tiger Woods said. “Congressional Country Club and Robert Trent Jones Golf Club will continue to challenge our strong fields while supporting the local community.”
Congressional Country Club has hosted the Quicken Loans National tournament since its inception in 2007, with exception of 2010 and 2011, when the club made preparations for the 2011 U.S. Open. The club was founded in 1924 and has two 18-hole golf courses on its grounds. Its famed Blue Course designed by Devereux Emmet has hosted five major championships.
According to the news release, the Tiger Woods Foundation currently operates three Tiger Woods Learning Centers in the area, at the Marine Corps Base at Quantico and two in Washington, DC.
Scholars in grades 5-12 are immersed in an interactive STEM curriculum at the learning centers and are exposed to college-access programs. Here, they make the connection between school and career, while planning a road map to college.
In addition to the learning centers, there are 25 D.C. Tiger Woods Foundation Scholars from the Earl Woods Scholarship Program, the news release said.
The news release provided this statement about the Tiger Woods Foundation:
Where you come from shouldn’t mean failure. At the Tiger Woods Foundation, it doesn’t. Our programs break the cycle of poverty with college-access opportunities for low-income students. At Tiger Woods Learning Center campuses across the country, scholars in grades 5-12 are immersed in an interactive STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) curriculum. Here, they make the connection between school and career, while planning a road map to college. Tailored to the needs of the first-generation scholar, the Earl Woods Scholarship Program provides four-year college scholarships coupled with an unyielding support system. But we don’t stop there. Through dedicated mentors, professional development workshops and internships, our one-to-one philosophy ensures the success of our students in college and beyond.
