Wreaths to be laid at 550+ cemeteries Dec. 14 including Manassas and Arlington

Beginning in1992, the Worcester family, owners of the Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington Maine, began laying wreaths at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Because of the growing interest across the country after seeing pictures of the wreaths placed at Arlington, the family along with veterans and other groups, formed Wreaths Across America organization in 2007. They have since added over 545 other locations in this country and beyond.

This year the Manassas Lioness Lions Club along with the Daughters of the Confederacy have added our local Confederate Cemetery on Center Street to the list. On Saturday, December 14th at noon sharp, all of these cemeteries will be honoring our fallen heroes at the same time.

The public is invited to attend this first commemoration ceremony. Local dignitaries, the Manassas City Police Color Guard and bagpipe, and others will present a short program including the laying of the wreaths.

Besides 14 marked stones, there is a large monument for the unknown heroes numbering over 211.

Whitt’s Harley Davidson, which is next to the cemetery at 9321 Center Street, has offered for attendees to park in its lot nearest to the cemetery. Please mark your calendar and join us in honoring these fallen soldiers.
