Time capsule from 1946 to be opened in Haymarket on Sept. 12
On September 12, Supervisor Pete Candland will be joined by Haymarket Mayor David Leake and Delegate Bob Marshall to open a time capsule placed in the cornerstone of the Haymarket Fire Department in 1946.
Little is known about the contents of the time capsule which has sat in the cornerstone laid by Congressman Howard W. Smith in 1946. In coming weeks, the building is being sold by Prince William County to a private party.
The officials will be joined by a representative from the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Public Works to open and inspect the contents of the 67 year old time capsule.
