PWC cyclists capture 13 gold medals in 10K & 20K at Senior Olympics

Cyclists competed in the 2013 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, 10K and 20K cycling events Sept. 8 at the Northern Fauquier Community Park in Marshall.

Gold medalists in the 10K race (women) 55-59, Karen Sullivan, Arl.; 65-69, Lynn Saunders, Gainesville;
70-74, Susan Lucas, Gainesville; and 75-79, Joyce Tobias, Haymarket.

Male gold medalists in the 10K were 55-59, James Gleason, Reston; 60-64, Mark Holt, Fairfax; 65-69, David Jerome, Haymarket; 70-74, Kenneth Weinzapfel, Gainesville; 75-79, Terrence McCarthy, Leesburg and 80-84, Thomas Tobias, Haymarket.

In the 20K race, gold medalists were (women) 50-54, Leigh Danforth, Warrenton; 55-59, Karen Sullivan, Arl.; 65-69, Lynn Saunders, Gainesville; 70-74, Susan Lucas, Gainesville; and 75-79 Joyce Tobias, Haymarket.

In the 20K race for men, the gold medalists were 50-54, Brian Morgan, Dumfries; 55-59, Jim Gleason, Reston; 60-64, James Degoey, Reston; 65-69, David Jerome, Haymarket; 70-74, Kenneth Weinzapfel, Gainesville; 75-79, Charles Nelson, Arl. and 80-84, Thomas Tobias, Haymarket.

The event is divided into five year age groups and by gender and drew participants from every participating Northern Virginia jurisdiction, according to Judy Massabny, NVOS spokesman.

Participants must be 50 years of age and live in the county of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun or Prince William or the city of Alexandria, Fairfax or Falls Church.
