Looking for strategies to help your child with sensory challenges? Parents, teachers, school staff, and others are invited to a free workshop on “the out-of-sync child” on Tuesday, October 1 from 7–9 p.m. at the Muriel Humphrey Center, 13505 Hillendale Drive in Woodbridge.
Some children with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) withdraw from contact, refuse to participate in ordinary activities, or respond in unusual ways to touch, movement, sights, and sounds. These kids don’t behave as we expect—not because they won’t—but because they can’t.
Come hear how SPD affects children at home and school and learn fun and functional activities to get them “in sync.”
Guest presenter Carol Stock Kranowitz has observed many young children with SPD in her career as a preschool teacher. Today, she teaches parents, educators, and other professionals how sensory issues play out and suggests activities for addressing them at home and at school.
Kranowitz has authored “The Out-of-Sync Child,” “The Out-of-Sync Child Has Fun,” and “The Goodenoughs Get in Sync” and, with Joye Newman, co-authored “Growing an In-Sync Child.”
Limited seating is likely to fill early at this event, which is co-hosted by PWCS Office of Special Education Parent Resource Center and The Arc of Greater Prince William.
Preregistration is required and limited to 65 attendees.
No walk-in registration is allowed due to space limitations. Childcare will be available by preregistration only, and must be requested by Wednesday, September 25.
