Officials with the Virginia Department of Forestry announced today that the agency’s online “General Store” will temporarily cease operation on Aug. 21 as part of a plan to consolidate and upgrade VDOF’s online retail operations.
Since launching a website in 1997, VDOF has operated two online stores. The “General Store” is open year ‘round and sells the book “Native Trees of Virginia,” an important educational tool for landowners and school children. Each year, the VDOF grows more than 24 million tree seedlings, selling them online via “Tree Seedling Store,” which is typically open for purchases from October to April.
Online sales are expected to resume on a single consolidated website in late November. Purchasers will notice a faster and more streamlined user experience as a result of the upgrade.
