Free career fair for military members and spouses in Washington, DC on April 2

A free career fair for all ranks of active duty, retired, former, and reserve/National Guard service members and their   spouses, as well as government employees hosted by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA)  will b held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2. Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Hall D.

The center is at 801 Mt. Vernon Place, N.W., at the Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center Metro stop

According to a news release, employers from up to 75 regional and national companies will look for potential employees in virtually every job skill. Businesses and organizations attending include: Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Chick-fil-A, Inc., and many more. Free LinkedIn profile photos and onsite résumé critiques.

Several free, 60-minute pre- career fair transition seminars, “How to Work a Job Fair,” in room 204B and “Federal Job Application Preparation,” in room 204C, will be held at 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. 

There will be four afternoon seminars. “Evaluating Employee Benefit Plans” will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in room 204B, a LinkedIn Seminar will be held at 2 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. in room 204C, an “Interview Surprises Seminar” will be held at 2 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. in room 204A.

“Emerge and Grow:  Mentorship and Networking Strategies for Professional Women Veterans” will be held at 12:30 to 2 p.m. This seminar will discuss the importance of mentoring and networking for women veteran professionals, who in the post 9/11 era have an unemployment rate almost 4 percent higher than the national average and 2.6 percent higher than their male counterparts, the news release said.

A panel of five women who have employed successful job search strategies will discuss how mentoring helps women find and advance careers, how to seek a mentor and manage the relationship, and strategically employing the mentoring relationship to find a job, advance in a company, or cross into other industries.  Every female veteran will receive a special gift from MOAA and have the opportunity to meet and network with the panelists and other attendees. http://www.moaa.org/career
