NOVEC is working to restore power to all customers by Thursday night

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative crews and contract crews are working to restore power to all customers by Thursday night.

As of 11 a.m. on March 7,  445 of NOVEC’s 150,000 customers in Fauquier, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford counties were without power.

Larry Shaffer, vice president, System Operations, was quoted as saying, “We’ve made good progress, but we’ve got seven broken utility poles to replace and a lot of damage to repair before the day is over.”

Crews have been working “around the clock,” he said.

On March 6, at the height of the storm, approximately 4,000 NOVEC customers lost power when trees and branches snapped by snow and wind fell on power lines.

Customers should call NOVEC and register their phone numbers on NOVEC’s Interactive Voice Recognition system, Shaffer said.

“When the customer’s phone number is not in our system, we have to manually look up the address and make a ticket for the outage. That slows everything down, especially when we have thousands of people without power. We’ve recently changed our system so that customers can associate up to two phone numbers with their accounts. We encourage them to do so.”

To associate phone numbers with their accounts, customers should call 703-335-0500 or 1-888-335-0500.
