Town of Haymarket debates two old buildings’ fate

The fate of two old buildings hung in the balance at the Haymarket Town Council meeting on May 2. The former Red Rooster store (which also served as a post office) and the gray building sort of behind town hall, known as the Hulfish House, were up for discussion at the meeting. Possible full or partial demolition was considered.
Virginia has declared the Red Rooster to have historic value; the Hulfish House has some local historical interest. “They carry a significant portion of history from when the town was burnt to the ground 150 years ago,” according to Pam Swinford, chair of the town architectural review board.
