Red carpet event at Woodbridge High School Nov. 16

Woodbridge High School is rolling out the red carpet and inviting the community to hear new music and see some of the school’s top talent on Friday, Nov. 16. The Fall Talent Showcase will feature original compositions and cover songs performed by students. The event will also launch the CD release for Yasmin Williams and NovaMaze, two up-and-coming artists who have been signed to the student run record label, Polyphonix Records.

Yasmin is a junior in the Music Technology program at school-based Center for Fine and Performing Arts. She is also an excellent student and clarinet player in the popular and successful Mighty Viking Marching and Symphonic bands. Yasmin taught herself to play guitar four years ago and has a unique style of playing that includes hits, taps, and harmonics, which emphasize the rhythmic elements, and wide range of expression available through the acoustic guitar.

There are five original instrumental guitar pieces on her upcoming release, including “Sunrise,” a layered and energetic acoustic piece, and “Hypnotic Sonic,” a heavy rock electric guitar instrumental that is reminiscent of the rock band Nirvana. Yasmin has worked tirelessly over the last year to record her songs with multiple tracks and then mix them down to the professional quality sound that they have today.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 show. Tickets can be purchased at the door and include a copy of Yasmin Williams’ “Serendipity” and the artist NovaMaze’s “Good Vibes” CD’s.
