Swimming and diving are among the most popular events in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics competition being held Sept. 15-26. The swimming events were held at the Oak Marr Recreation Center, Oakton, on Sept. 21 and included backstroke, breaststroke, free style and half mile.
Gold medalists in backstroke were (women) 65-69, Gail Johnson, Gainesville, and 75-79, Joyce Tobias, Haymarket.
Breaststroke gold medalists were (men) 55-59, Doug Hill, Woodbridge and (women) 65-69, Gail Johnson, Gainesville; 70-74, Jane Geison, Haymarket; and 75-79, Joyce Tobias, Haymarket.
Gold medal winners in the free style competition were (men) 55-59, Doug Hill, Woodbridge and (women) 65-69, E. Anne Moore, Gainesville.
In the final swimming event, half mile any style, gold medals were awarded to (men) 55-59, Doug Hill, Woodbridge and (women) 75-79, Joyce Tobias, Haymarket.
NVSO continues through Sept. 26. Weather delayed games (miniature golf, bocce, horseshoes, football throw, softball hit and throw and tennis singles) were postponed until the week of Sept. 24.
