Interstate 66 will be closed at the Capital Beltway for roadwork this weekend

The Virginia Department of Transportation issues a press release Aug. 22 stating that multiple lanes of I-66 west will be closed at the Capital Beltway this weekend from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27. Crews will be performing demolition, excavation, paving and roadway markings. All closures are weather permitting.

One of two lanes on the exit ramps from both I-495 north and south to Exit 49, I-66 west will also be closed Friday night through Sunday night. The I-495 southbound ramp to I-66 west will close completely Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (VA 236) east, follow signs to I-495 north and take Exit 49, I-66 west.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday morning, Aug. 27.

Motorists can expect 30 minute delays and are strongly urged to use an alternate route during the weekend construction.This work is part of the 495 Express Lanes Project. The project is on schedule to be completed in late 2012.
