Fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a two-story, single-family home located in the 9700 block of Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 1:48 a.m., according to a news release from Prince William County Fire & Rescue.
The residents were alerted by the smoke detectors and had already evacuated the home when fire and rescue units arrived, the release said. The fire, which started in the laundry room on the lower level, was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Two adults and one child were displaced. One firefighter became ill during overhaul operations and was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
County police assisted with scene management.
The preliminary damage estimate is $100,000.
The cause of this fire is currently under investigation by the fire investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office.
Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue (http://www.pwcgov.org/fire) would like to remind residents that smoke alarms, when properly installed and maintained, save lives. People double their chances of surviving a home fire when the smoke alarms are working, compared to homes without working smoke alarms, the release said.
