The Woodbridge Flute Choir (WFC), directed by Debbie Gilbert, is inviting members of the community to its annual holiday concert that will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. The musical event will be held at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 15400 Greenwich Church Way, Nokesville, VA, 20181. A freewill offering will be collected to benefit Farthest Corners, a charity that supports communities in need.
The “A Child Is Born” program will feature 21 musicians who will perform a mix of sacred and festive holiday music on piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute, and contrabass flute.
The program will include familiar Christmas carols: We Three Kings, I Wonder as I Wander, and Silent Night arranged by Ann Cameron Pearce, an arrangement of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel in Adventus: Emmanuel, arranged by Anne McGinty.
Away in a Manger, arranged by Taylor Scott Davis and transcribed for flute choir by Gareth McLearnon and Ave Maria by Franz Biebl, arranged by George Father, will also be played.
The choir also will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sinfonia and Chorale from Cantata BWV 142, arranged by Bruce Behnke, and a medley of carols in Fiat Lux (Let There Be Light) by Anne McGinty.
The program will also include lighter pieces, such as Kinda Blue Xmas arranged by Peter Senchuk, Jingle Bells arranged by Chris Ridenhour, and A Child Is Born by Alec Wilder and Thad Jones, arranged by Michael Annicchiarico.
