Outside gas leak reported Oct. 15 in Haymarket’s Piedmont community

Prince William County fire and rescue units were dispatched to the 5900 block of Coby Hunt Ct. in Haymarket’s Piedmont community at 4:17 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for a reported outside gas leak, according to Matt Smolsky, Prince William County Fire Marshal.

Smolsky said that at approximately 5:36 p.m. a unit on the scene messaged the home had exploded. The home had been evacuated earlier by the unit on the scene as of 5:36 p.m.  Initial reports were an underground contractor struck a natural gas line. It is unknown at this time what led to the explosion. No injuries had been reported.

He said units are still on the scene completing extinguishment and overhaul. The gas company is on the scene to secure the leak. There is no further danger to the community.
