• Volunteer Prince William’s Alternative Community Service program is in Urgent need of bilingual volunteer Translators to translate for clients who want to enroll in the program but speak little or no English. Volunteers are needed on weekdays to participate in a conference call between staff and clients to translate questions and responses during the initial intake interview. Volunteers will be scheduled in advance for specific shifts and must be available by phone during these times. Proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Volunteers must also ensure that the information they translate remains accurate and maintains the same style and meaning as originally intended. Bilingual volunteers are needed to assist attorneys with filling out intake packets with clients, gathering and copying documentation from clients for attorneys and interpreting for attorneys. Meals on Wheels has an urgent need for volunteers to deliver noontime meals to homebound older adults weekdays between 10 a.m. and Noon. Daily routes take about 1.5 hours to complete; the schedule is flexible! Volunteers must have their own vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance. Volunteers must also pass a background and driving record check. Prince William Conservation Alliance is having a Volunteer Kickoff Event at Veterans Park, 14300 Veterans Drive, Woodbridge on Sunday, August 11, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Volunteers will learn about invasive plants, discuss their impacts on wildlife and parks, and work to remove and manage 5 invasive plant species that have taken root among the park’s native species. This event is family-friendly, and the start of a longer-term series of sessions where you can continue to care for the park. Each session should last 45 minutes to an hour, but volunteers are welcome to participate the entire time.
