PWC Crime Log for Oct. 12: Burglary to Gainesville church; attempted malicious wounding charged

Armed Robbery *SUSPECT IDENTIFIED | ARREST – On October 8, the suspect sought in connection to the robbery that was reported to have occurred at Macy’s in the Manassas Mall located at 8270 Sudley Rd. in Manassas (20109) on August 25, was arrested. During the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Valerie Rene POLOVITCH, and on September 6, following the investigation, officers obtained warrants for her arrest. On October 8, while patrolling the Manassas area, officers located the accused, who was determined to be in possession of suspected illegal narcotics and took her into custody without incident.

Armed Robbery [Previously Released] – On August 25 at 5:52PM, officers responded to the Manassas Mall located at 8270 Sudley Rd. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed loss prevention officers observed an unknown woman taking items from the shelf and placing them into a bag before walking towards the exit. Before she left the store, the suspect was confronted by a loss prevention officer. During the encounter, the suspect produced a knife and cut the loss prevention officer before fleeing in a waiting brown Chrysler Pacifica. Minor injuries were reported. The suspect was not located.

INCIDENTS
Reckless Handling of a Firearm –
On October 11 at 5:54PM, officers responded to the end of Savannah Dr. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed a dark-colored Volkswagen SUV parked in the above area where three unknown men exited the vehicle and walked into the nearby wooded area. A short time later, multiple shots were heard before the same three men were seen coming out of the wooded area and then leaving in the SUV. While checking the area, officers located shell casings in the wooded area. No injuries and no property damage were reported. The suspects were described as black males between 18-20 years of age, one carrying a backpack.

Burglary to a Place of Worship – On October 11 at 5:13PM, officers responded to the Golden Church of God located at 15032 Lee Hwy. in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a burglary. The investigation revealed sometime between 12:00AM on October 2 and 12:00AM on October 11, entry was made into the building through an unsecured rear door. Pews, lecterns, dining room set, crystal glassware, and silver cutlery were reported missing.

ARRESTS
Sexual Assault Investigation –
On October 11, detectives concluded the investigation into a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred in the Bristow (20135) area of Prince William County between May 2014 and May 2020. The investigation revealed the victim, who was under the age of 18 at the time of the offenses, was sexually assaulted by a family member, identified as the accused, on more than one occasion during the above timeframe. The victim recently reported the incidents to a family member ,prompting the police investigation. Following the investigation, the accused, who was between 10-16 years of age at the time of the incidents, was arrested.

Charged with 1 count of aggravated sexual battery, 1 count of indecent liberties by custodian, 1 count of object sexual penetration, and 2 counts of sodomy

Attempted Malicious Wounding | Strangulation | Domestic Related – On October 11 at 1:19PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 14700 block of Barksdale St. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a domestic dispute. The investigation revealed the victim, a 25-year-old woman, and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the accused grabbed the victim’s neck and pushed her to the ground. The parties separated and the victim attempted to walk away before being struck multiple times by the accused. The victim and 1-year-old son eventually went to her vehicle where the accused followed and threw a hammer which struck the vehicle. The accused then smashed one of the vehicle’s windows with the hammer before leaving. While police were investigating the incident, the accused returned to the residence where he was detained without incident. The victim reported minor injuries and the child was unharmed. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Ivan Alberto MEDAL, was arrested.
