William J. Murtagh of the National Park Service once wrote, “It has been said that at its best, preservation engages the past in a conversation with the present over a mutual concern for the future.”
And it’s that “concern for the future” that fuels the hope that our nation’s past is not forgotten and communities retain their identity that make up the broader story of our united states.
When it comes to Virginia’s battlefields—preserving the very footprints of those who fought on those lands—the Virginia Battlefield Preservation Conference in Manassas April 17-18 addressed steps people can take with regards to preserving Virginia’s battlefields.
