Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton reports she had a jam-packed June marking up Congress’ annual budget bills as a member of the Appropriations Committee and getting out around the 10th district to highlight how federal infrastructure funding is expanding broadband to every corner of our community.
Helping Americans be Safer and More Responsible Online
I officially relaunched my Congressional Task Force on Digital Citizenship to start discussions here in Congress and with other stakeholders about how we can promote tools for engaging online in healthy, responsible ways. We also aim to offer opportunities for the public to become better educated on being good digital citizens. From spotting misinformation to combating online bullying, practicing good digital citizenship is more important than ever for Americans of all ages. You can learn more and find resources at wexton.house.gov/digitalcitizenship.
Keeping Up the Fight Against Gun Violence
Last Congress, I voted to pass the most consequential gun safety legislation in decades – with bipartisan support. But it’s clear there’s more to be done. That’s why I’m pushing for the House of Representatives to use every tool at our disposal to take up common sense bills that would keep dangerous weapons off our streets and make our communities safer.
Cracking Down on Products Made with Forced Labor
Americans deserve to know whether the goods they buy everyday are sourced from forced labor. I’m working with my Republican colleague Rep. John Rose to demand greater transparency from the Chinese fast-fashion company, Shein, which has had serious allegations of profiting off of the widespread forced labor of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in China. We cannot turn a blind eye to these egregious human rights abuses.
Around VA-10
Affordable, High-Speed Internet Coming to Virginia!
Access to high speed internet is not a luxury, it’s a necessity — and now we have an opportunity to make it a reality. Thanks to our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Virginia is set to receive $1.48 billion in federal funding to expand high-speed internet to every corner of our Commonwealth. I celebrated this announcement and heard from families, business owners, and community leaders about how we can make the most of this funding here in our district during a roundtable in Hillsboro last week.
Supporting Healthy School Meals
I visited Unity Reed High School in Prince William last month to get a firsthand look at the county’s summer meals program to keep kids fed and healthy while school is out of session. Securing federal support for nutritious, accessible meals for all children in our community is a priority for me in Congress.
Congressional App Challenge – Open Now!
I’m inviting all Virginia-10 middle and high school students to try their hands at Congress’ annual coding competition, the 2023 Congressional App Challenge – open now! This competition is a great way for young people of all abilities and backgrounds to learn more about coding and get hands-on experience putting to work skills that could benefit them far into their futures. I’m always so impressed by the brilliance, talent, and creativity of our district’s students, so I can’t wait to see what inventive new ideas this year’s participants come up with to benefit our community. Find out more here.
Delivering for the People of Our District
I’m excited to share that my constituent services team has hit a major new milestone – more than 10,000 constituents helped! Since my first day in Congress, my team and I have been helping Virginians get assistance with federal agencies on issues like Social Security and Medicare, veterans benefits, and immigration processing. I’m proud of our work to have successfully helped 10,262 constituents and returned a total of $18,125,726 to the hardworking taxpayers of our district.
