Qualified individuals interested in temporarily filling the Occoquan District School Board seat must file an application with the clerk of the Prince William County School Board by June 6.
As required by Virginia law, the School Board will appoint an interim member who must be a qualified voter and bona fide resident of the Occoquan District. The appointment must be made within 45 days of the occurrence of the vacancy, or by July 2, 2012.
The seat became vacant when Occoquan District member Grant Lattin tendered his resignation May 16.
Eligible voters may apply for the interim appointment by filing an application with the Clerk of the School Board, on or before 4:30 p.m., June 6. Find the application form in the School Board Office, Room 3400, Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, or on the School Division’s Web site at http://www.pwcs.edu Compl.eted applications can be delivered to the Clerk’s office or transmitted electronically to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Applications must be submitted by close of business June 6, 2012.
The School Board’ will hold a public hearing on the interim appointment of the Occoquan District representative at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in the School Board meeting room at the Kelly Leadership Center.
Residents should sign up to speak at the hearing by contacting the Clerk of the School Board by telephone or email, no later than noon on the day of the hearing. Would-be speakers may also sign up in person from 6-6:55 on the night of the meeting. Each speaker will be given up to three minutes to make comments. Applicants for the position are also invited to speak for up to five minutes.
Only those whose names are considered at the public hearing will be eligible for appointment as the interim School Board member. The School Board plans to vote on the interim appointment at a June 20 meeting.
