Getting Hands Dirty class starts in May

The Fauquier Education Farm is about to begin its Intro to Getting Your Hands Dirty Class in May. This is a chance for home gardeners and people interested in commercial agriculture to learn a little bit more about growing crops.

In the upcoming class, Intro to Getting Your Hands Dirty, we will take a careful look at what goes into field grown crop production. Students should expect to gain a basic level understanding of the concepts and tools necessary to grow crops. It includes a lab at the Education Farm and a tour of a local commercial farm.

The class will be held May 24 - June 28, meeting Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fauquier Extension Office 24 Pelham St # 10, Warrenton, VA 20186. Class registration is $100 per person and $150 per couple. The registration fee can be paid at the Fauquier Extension Office during business hours. This class will be taught by Ashley Goodwin, to get more information and complete registration for the class, please contact her at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The Fauquier Education Farm is a 501 (c) (3) Non-profit organization dedicated to interactively teaching people about agriculture while providing healthy, fresh produce to the Fauquier Community. The farm produces a variety of vegetables on our 10 acre farm on Meetze Rd. in Fauquier, VA. Everything we produce is being donated to area food banks throughout Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, and Prince William counties. Our goal is to harvest 100,000+ lbs. of produce before reaching the end of the growing season.

With the workforce almost entirely made up of volunteers, the farm has the opportunity to create an educational experience through the farming process. Additionally, there is a free Workshop Series, a Farmer Incubator Program, and two different Beginning Farmer Programs offered throughout the year. Through this we hope to support and expand the agricultural community in Fauquier County, especially in being a resource for home gardeners and beginning farmers.
