Assistance League needs more sponsors, donors and food packers for hungry kids

On Thursday, March 16, Assistance League of Northern Virginia will hold its monthly food-packing event for its WEEKEND FOOD FOR KIDS PROGRAM and is looking for sponsors, donors, supporters, and new members.

The food-packing takes place at Dominion Energy, 3072 Centreville Road, Herndon, starting at 10 a.m.  Dominion is the League’s long-time partner is this effort and provides the facilities where the packing is done as well as employees to help with the packing and trucks and drivers to deliver the food to schools in Fairfax and Prince William counties.

Through this effort, ALNV distributes bags of nonperishable food each month to sustain students over the weekend when school-provided meals aren’t available.  In addition, ALNV provides grocery gift cards each month to the families of students at an elementary school in Alexandria and to all seven schools during the summer.  This month, the group will also deliver new clothing to the schools based on their requests.

It takes about an hour for ALNV volunteers to pack the bags, thanks to the dedication of theparticipants and the lively background music that sets the pace. The nonprofit organization raises all the funds needed for this program and for all our other philanthropic efforts.  Join us at this fun event and see how much good we accomplish in only an hour.
