Ten Virginia politicians to make FBI site in Springfield pitch to Feds March 9

On Thursday, March 9, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine will host a media availability following their presentation to the General Services Administration (GSA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding why Springfield, Va, is the best location for the new FBI Headquarters.

The presentation—which will include Governor Glenn Youngkin, Warner, Kaine, U.S. Representatives Gerry Connolly, Don Beyer and Jennifer Wexton, Fairfax County Board Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay, Fairfax Board Supervisor Rodney Lusk, Prince William Board Chair-At-Large Ann Wheeler and Prince William Board Supervisor Andrea Bailey—comes as the FBI and the GSA work to finalize the location after years of work on the project which has spanned multiple presidential administrations.

Last month, the Commonwealth’s congressional delegation and Governor Youngkin held a press conference in Springfield to highlight the ways in which it best meets the five selection criteria set forth by the GSA and FBI,The press conference followed the submission of a letter by Virginia’s congressional delegation and Governor Youngkin to the GSA and FBI laying out the case for the Springfield site.

The announced selection criteria are:
• support for the FBI mission requirement;
• transportation access;
• site development flexibility;
• promoting sustainable siting and advancing equity; and
• cost.
