Fatal Crash Investigation – On Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023 at 1:43AM, investigators with the Prince William County Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Williamstown Dr and Richmond Hwy in Dumfries (22026) to investigate a single vehicle crash.
The investigation revealed the driver of a 2015 Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound on Richmond Hwy, when the driver slowed to make a right turn onto Williamstown Dr. As the vehicle slowed, the passenger opened her door and exited from the vehicle onto the roadway while the vehicle was still in motion.
The passenger was found unconscious in the roadway, and first aid was administered until fire & rescue personnel arrived on scene. The passenger was transported to an area hospital where she died as a result of her injuries later that morning.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Gustavo A. BARAHONA BENITEZ, was located at the scene of the crash where he was determined to be intoxicated and driving without a license. The passenger of the vehicle is also believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact police. The investigation continues.
