The Prince William Republican Committee will be meeting at Park Valley Church in Haymarket tonight so Gainesville District Republicans can choose a candidate for Gainesville Supervisor.
Carol Fox, the GOP’s Gainesville District chairman, will chair tonight’s meeting, according to Brian Penn, Prince William Republican Committee spokesman. The meeting will begin by confirming the rules and other business.
A Special Election will be held Feb. 21, 2023 to fill the spot created by the Dec. 16, 2022 resignation of Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland.
Press will be issued credentials to allow them to go on the floor.
The candidates are Ray Mizener, chairman of PW Committee of 100, Alyson Satterwhite, former two-term Gainesville District School Board member, and Robert “Bob” Weir, sitting member of Haymarket Town Council and Haymarket Planning Commission.
Penn said each candidate will be allowed ten minutes for a nominating speech, the speech of the candidate, and floor demonstration.
Voting will be done by rows and the ballots issued to qualified voters at the beginning will be put in a box. The candidates will be allowed observers for the process.
The counting will be done by the Teller Committee.
If one of the three candidates receives a majority in this round that candidate becomes the nominee. If no candidate receives a majority in the first round, the top two will compete in a second round, with the winner determined by majority vote.
The capacity of the church is 1460, Penn added.
