PW Police Report for Monday, Dec. 5, 2022: Police kept busy over weekend

INCIDENTS
• Shooting Investigation –
On Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 1:46AM, officers responded to the 10700 block of Battleview Pkwy. in Manassas (20109) for initial reports of a shooting. Upon arriving in the above area, officers located a 19-year-old man inside a local business suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. Rescue responded and transported the man to an area hospital where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. The preliminary investigation revealed the injured man, and two male acquaintances, entered the business after the man was shot. The men were not cooperative with officers during the investigation. A police K-9 searched the area for evidence of a shooting which was not located. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.

• Shooting into a Residential Dwelling – On Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 1:40PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 14400 block of Village High St. in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a shots fired call. The investigation revealed a dark-colored vehicle was driving down Village High St. when an occupant of the vehicle brandished a firearm out the window and fired multiple rounds before the driver fled the area. The rounds struck the exterior of two homes in the area. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.

• Commercial Burglary – On Friday, December 2, 2022 at 9:10AM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to Banter by Piercing Pagoda inside Potomac Mills located at 2700 Potomac Mills Cl. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a burglary-in-progress. Upon arriving at the store, officers determined the suspects had fled the area. The investigation revealed two men and a woman smashed the display cases before taking a large number of items out of the cases. The suspects were only described as being possibly Hispanic and wearing black-colored clothing.

• Commercial Burglary – On Friday, December 2, 2022 at 4:30PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to investigate a burglary that was reported to have occurred at the Springhill Suites located at 7921 Gateway Promenade Pl. in Gainesville (20155) sometime between November 14 and 30. The investigation revealed entry was gained into the secured laundry room of the hotel with a pry-tool. While inside the room, the suspect(s) picked the locks on the coin drawers of several machines taking an undisclosed amount of money.

ARRESTS
• Attempted Rape | Domestic Related –
On Friday, December 2, 2022 at 6:40AM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to Point at Bull Run Apartments located in the 7300 block of Wichita Ct. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a domestic. The investigation revealed the victim, a 29-year-old woman, and a family member, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the encounter, the accused forcibly held the victim down, preventing her movements. The victim was eventually able to separate from the accused. When the victim attempted to leave the apartment, the accused pulled her back inside the home and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to separate from the accused and contacted the police. The victim reported minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Victor Alfonso VANEGAS was arrested.

• Child Endangerment | Domestic Related – On Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 4:49PM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to the 12700 block of Westport Ln. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a domestic. The investigation revealed the victim, an 18-year-old woman, and an acquaintance, identified as the accused, were involved in a verbal altercation during a custody exchange. As the victim was leaving in her vehicle, the accused struck the rear driver’s side window, smashing the glass. At the time of the incident, their infant boy was in the rear driver’s side seat and sustained minor scrapes on his face from the broken glass. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Marcellus Cortez CONTRERAS, was arrested.

• Felony Eluding | Reckless Driving – On Monday, December 5, 2022 at 6:28AM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to the Westgate Apartments located in the 8100 block of Portwood Tn. In Manassas (20109) for initial reports of an unresponsive man in a vehicle.
As officers were responding, they determined the vehicle had recently been reported stolen. When officers approached the vehicle, the occupants refused to follow commands. At one point, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as the accused, reversed the vehicle at a high rate of speed into a police cruiser before quickly fleeing from the scene. No officers were struck by the accused.
Additional officers observed the suspect vehicle on Sudley Rd. where the accused continued to elude police and then drove into the parking lot of a local business and down an access road before the occupants fled on foot. A police K-9 and Fairfax County police helicopter searched for the suspects who were not initially located. While police continued their search for the suspects, a caller reported a suspicious person in the 10600 block of Provincial Dr.
When officers arrived at the location, they observed an individual who was identified as the accused. When officers attempted to take the accused into custody, a brief struggle ensued before the accused was secured without further incident. No injuries were reported. During the investigation, officers located several items recently reported stolen within Prince William County. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Jaquan Malik FITCHETT, was arrested.

Charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, hit & run, felony eluding, reckless driving, driving without a license, false identity to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice, and petit larceny

• Assault & Battery on an Adult Detention Center Officer – On Monday, December 5, 2022 at 12:19AM,  Prince William County Police officers responded to the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center [ADC] located at 9320 Lee Ave in Manassas (20110) to investigate an assault on a staff member. The investigation revealed an inmate of the facility, identified as the accused, refused to follow procedures. When officers intervened, the accused struck one of the officers multiple times. Additional staff secured the accused without further incident. The officer reported minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Jason Josue CASTRO was charged and remained incarcerated at the ADC.

Charged with assault and battery on an ADC officer
