Alyson Satterwhite, former Gainesville District School Board member who recently announced her intention to run for the Gainesville District’s supervisor seat for the 2024-2027 term, issued the following statement Dec.10:
“With today’s news of Supervisor Candland’s resignation, the Prince William Board of Supervisors will set a date for a special election in the new year. I look forward to taking my campaign to every corner of the District in the coming weeks. I am running to represent the Gainesville District in order to protect the Rural Crescent, reduce the tax burden on families, and improve our public safety.
Public service is challenging and I applaud anyone who would serve in elected office. While I may have disagreed with some of Mr. Candland’s actions, I recognize his commitment to service that he had as a long-time Supervisor for this District. I also applaud the Candland family for their sacrifice and commitment to Pete’s work on the Board.
As the Board of Supervisors considers a vote this week on an amendment to the comprehensive plan, I urge them to postpone the vote! Gainesville has not had representation on this issue for months - it’s important for this District to have a voice before more decisions are made regarding the PW Digital Gateway and surrounding development. I have fought to protect our community for over a decade. My commitment to our community is unwavering.”
