Early morning fire Oct. 21 in Montclair displaces family of four

On Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at 12:13 AM units were dispatched to the 15000 block of Mimosa Trail (Montclair) for a single-family dwelling fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Matt Smolsky said crews arrived to find a working fire in the attached garage. The home’s occupants had been alerted to the fire by smoke detectors. The fire was quickly extinguished. Damage was primarily contained to the garage. No injuries were reported.

The building was declared unsafe to occupy by the Building Official. The family of four was displaced. The Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause but have determined it to be accidental, Smolsky.

Smoke detectors save lives! Check your smoke detectors monthly. If you need assistance obtaining a smoke detector contact your local fire station, Smolsky advised.
