National Night Out is tonight, Aug. 2

Tonight, Tuesday, August 2, the Prince William County Police Department will observe the National Night Out celebration.

County residents are encouraged to participate by turning on outdoor lights and spending the evening outside as a symbol that they care about one another and their neighborhoods. This effort will be coordinated by Community Engagement Section of the Prince William County Police Department. It is designed to help create healthy neighborhoods, celebrate community, and take steps to make neighborhoods safer for all residents.

National Night Out is a nationwide program aimed at crime, violence, and drug prevention. It offers the Prince William County Police Department the opportunity to join with thousands of communities across the country to promote crime fighting efforts between the community and the police.

During National Night Out, police officers from across the County will visit communities, in cooperation with neighborhood watches, raise awareness of the importance of crime prevention programs and to let people know that the public’s participation can have an impact on reducing crime. The night also serves to bring communities and police together under positive circumstances, which helps to enhance the quality of life in the County.
