PWC Police Report for May 5, 2022 : Police investigating seven incidents involving guns

Incidents
• Shooting Investigation –
On May 4, 2022 at 2:28PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 7500 block of Helmsdale Pl. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a shooting. Residents reported to police that gunshots were heard before two vehicles were seen driving away at a high rate of speed. While investigating, officers were informed that an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were at the hospital receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. Both men are expected to survive. Neither man was cooperative with officers during the investigation.
The investigation revealed that while in the parking lot of the above area, the suspect and a group of individuals were involved in a verbal altercation. At some point during the encounter, the suspect fired multiple rounds towards the group, striking both men, before fleeing. The men were transported by acquaintances to an area hospital before police arrived at the location. A police K-9 and helicopter assistance from Fairfax County police searched for the suspect who was not located. Shell casings were located in the grass area near the parking lot. No additional injuries or property damage were reported. The only suspect description available is a male wearing dark-colored clothing. At this time, the incident does not appear to be random.

• Shooting Investigation – On May 3, 2022 at 12:18AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to investigate a shooting that reportedly occurred in the 13200 block of Occoquan Rd. in Woodbridge (22191) earlier that evening. Officers were initially called to an area hospital where a 25-year-old man was being treated at the facility for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The victim reported to police that while parked in the parking lot of the above area, he heard a loud noise before the front passenger side window of his vehicle shattered and then a 4-door sedan with tinted windows drove by. As the victim drove out of the area, he realized that the noise was a gunshot and he had been struck. The victim then drove to a nearby home where an acquaintance transported him to an area hospital where police were notified. No additional injuries or property damage were reported. The investigation continues.

• Shooting into a Residential Dwelling – On May 4, 2022 at 10:49PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the area of Alps Dr. and Colony Creek Ct. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a shots fired call. Residents reported to police that gunshots were heard before a vehicle quickly fled the area. While investigating, officers located a residence in the 14500 block of Alps Dr. with damage consistent with being struck by projectiles. An occupant of the home reported to police that gunshots were heard before observing damage inside the home. No injuries or additional property damage were reported. While canvassing the 14600 block of Alps Dr., officers located shell casings in front of a residence.

• Shooting into a Residential Dwelling (Senior Living Apt.) – On May 4, 2022 at 8:10AM, officers responded to investigate a destruction of property that was reported to have occurred at the Potomac Wood Senior Living Apartments located in the 1000 block of South Hampton St. in Woodbridge (22191) on May 3. A resident of an apartment reported to police that he woke to a loud noise at approximately 1:30AM. Upon inspection later that morning, the resident observed a bullet hole to his window. The resident notified the apartment manager who eventually contacted the police.
While investigating, officers located a second apartment with damage consistent with being struck by projectiles. The investigation revealed that the rounds were fired from outside the apartment complex. While canvassing, officers located shell casings behind the apartments on Pine Rd. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.

Armed Robbery of Ice Cream Truck– On May 4, 2022 at 6:37PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to Berkshire Dr. and Benton St. in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a robbery. The owner of the ice cream truck reported to police that while parked in the above area, an unknown man approached the service counter of the truck. During the encounter, the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s property before fleeing on foot. The owner drove the ice cream truck out of the area before reporting the incident to an acquaintance who contacted the police. A police K-9 searched the area for the suspect who was not located. No injuries were reported. A belly band containing credit cards, an undisclosed amount of money and personal identification were reported missing. The investigation continues.

A black male, approximately 30 years old, 5’6”, with a medium build, curly black hair, black eyes, and tattoos on his neck and arms
Last seen wearing a baseball cap, a white t-shirt, shorts, and carrying a plaid black/white backpack

• Reckless Handling of a Firearm – On May 4, 2022 at 4:22PM, officers responded to the area Kitty Hawk Way and Ranger Lp. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. Upon arriving in the area, residents reported to police that gunshots were heard before a group of individuals were seen fleeing on foot. The investigation revealed that a group of individuals were gathered on Ranger Lp. before someone from the group fired multiple rounds. While canvassing, officers located a shell casing in the parking lot. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Arrests
• Reckless Handling of a Firearm –
On May 4 at 9:05PM, officers responded to the Rolling Brook Apartments located in the 12700 block of Wood Hollow Dr. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. A resident of an apartment reported to police that she heard a gunshot before calling the police. The investigation revealed that a resident in an adjacent apartment, later identified as the accused, was cleaning her firearm when a round was discharged. The round traveled through the shared wall into the adjacent apartment where it continued through the bedroom wall and the door before being lodged in the door frame. No injuries or additional property damage were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Barbara Le Yaman ARNOLD, was charged.
