Injured resident flown to regional burn unit Feb. 1 after Dale City house catches fire

A Dale City man sustained life-threatening injuries in a house fire earlier today, Tuesday, Feb. 1, according to Matt Smolsky, Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal of Prince William Fire and Rescue. The victim was transported to a regional burn unit via helicopter, Smolsky said.

The Deputy Chief said fire and rescue units were dispatched to the 4000 block of Montega Drive (Dale City) at 11:24 a.m.for a report of a house fire with an occupant inside. Units arrived within four minutes from time of dispatch. Crews encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions showing from the single-family dwelling, and a quick-fire attack was initiated. Based on the extent of the fire and possible trapped victim a second alarm was requested, Smolsky said.

When crews entered the structure, they located an individual and began rescue operations to remove the adult male from the burning structure. Once the victim was rescued and safely outside, immediate life-saving care was administered.  The victim was the only occupant home at the time of the incident.

Prince William County’s Building Official has declared the home unsafe to occupy. A total of six adults and one child were displaced. At mid-afternoon, staff from the Fire Marshal’s Office was still on the scene determining the cause of the blaze, Smolsky said.
