Daniel Alexander from Florida has been hired as the newly created position of first Deputy County Executive of Public Safety for Prince William County.
The Jan. 6 announcement follows what a county news release described as “a national/international search that involved 80 applicants and a competitive hiring process.” His expected start date is Feb. 1.
Alexander brings 32 years of diverse experience with more than 17 as a department director or agency chief. He hasserved in five different local governments. He has specific and extensive experience in Fire and Rescue, Police, 9-1-1 communications, and emergency management. according to a county news release.
“We are happy to welcome Mr. Alexander to Prince William County and the level of expertise he brings to the position, “said Elijah Johnson, Prince William Acting County Executive.
Alexander has led efforts to reform police practices and to promote fair and impartial policing in multiple agencies. He has collaborated on executive management teams in three local governments.
Mr. Alexander most recently was the Chief of Police with the School District of Palm Beach County in West Palm Beach, Florida. He previously led the Cape Coral Police Department for four years and was Chief of Police in Boca Raton for 13 years.

Alexander has a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Florida and a M.A. degree in Public Administration from the University of Florida. He also attended the FBI National Academy.
“I am excited to join the team to help move the County forward in its mission, vision, and values…and look forward to working with various community stakeholders,” said Alexander in a news release.
