Army Maj. Ed Skelly, whose parents live in Lake Ridge, was the “Hokie Hero” for Virginia Tech’s football game with Clemson University on Oct. 1, according to a Va. Tech news release.

Skelly is a 1995 graduate of Va. Tech where he earned a degree in industrial and systems engineering from the College of Engineering and a minor in economics from the College of Science. He was the regimental operations officer during his senior year for the Corps of Cadets.

Skelly is stationed at Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan, as a plans officer in a Combined Joint Interagency Task Force, U.S. Forces Afghanistan. He and his wife and four children live at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and this is his second combat deployment.
