Selina Farmer Williams is the Manassas Art Guild’s Artist of the Month for February. According to a news release, she creates “images of child-like wonder to moody, sensual portraiture” with acrylic, watercolor and ink.
Williams grew up in the desert hills of New Mexico, where she demonstrated an early talent for art and creativity. She studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. She interned with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, and a received a full scholarship to Lacoste School for the Arts in France.
She and her husband, Shane Williams, Manassas Art Guild treasurer, started Mazzy Blue Studios. In 2004, they suffered the loss of their two-year-old daughter Mazzy, for whom the studio was named. The studio was dark for a time. Then one day Selina was asked to illustrate a book, “Nikita’s Journey,” which honored the couple’s daughter and others. Through this process she found love and healing, a news release said.
February’s Artist of the Month is presented in collaboration with Old Town Manassas merchants: Whimsical Galerie, The Things I Love, Simply Sweet on Main, Persnickety Cakes, Opera House Gourmet, Manassas Museum Store (Echoes), Creative Brush Studio, City Square Cafe and Ashby Jewelers.
