Betty Thomas Anastasi, retired Chief Deputy Clerk of PWC Circuit Court

Betty Thomas Anastasi, 99, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Commonwealth Senior Living of Manassas.  A memorial service was held on Aug. 11, 2024.

Betty was born in Catharpin, VA to Louie Bohrer and Ellen Utterback Thomas.  She was a 1943 graduate of Osbourn High School and worked for 42 years as Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court; serving Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County.

While employed at the court, Betty attended a USO dance in Manassas where she met the love of her life, Sgt. Peter Anthony Anastasi, USA. Pete was stationed at Vint Hill, and as fate would have it, they both loved dancing,  and it “was love at first sight.” They were engaged on April Fool’s Day and married on June 9, 1945.

Betty was very active with Trinity Episcopal Church in Manassas.  She worked in the nursery, taught Sunday school, was a member of the ECW and a lifelong member of the Altar Guild. After retirement, she volunteered at Prince William Hospital as a Pink Lady and worked the Absentee Election Polls. She was also an accomplished seamstress and loved sewing for family. In addition, she loved gardening and helping others.

She and Pete loved life and enjoyed traveling, being with friends and family.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 79 years, Pete; one son, Rodney Anastasi; one daughter, Ellen Anastasi Patterson and her husband Jack; and one grandson, Andrew Patterson.

We were blessed to have had Betty in our lives for so long. She loved life and lived it as a gift. 

The family suggests expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Trinity Episcopal Church in Manassas or to Capital Caring Hospice in loving memory of Betty Thomas Anastasi.
