I-95 southbound lanes from Rte.123 (Gordon Blvd.) to PW Parkway to be closed Sat.-Mon nights

WOODBRIDGE – Two lanes of southbound I-95 between Rte. 123 (Gordon Blvd.) and the Prince William Pkwy. (Route 294) will be closed, weather permitting, Saturday night, Nov. 6 and Sunday night, Nov. 7, and the right lane of southbound I-95 between RTe.123 and PW Parkway will be closed Monday night, Nov. 8 to implement a traffic shift, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The nightly lane closures will occur according to the following schedule:

10 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday: Two left lanes closed
10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday: Two right lanes closed
9:30 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9: Right lane closed

Drivers should expect delays. VDOT suggests using alternate routes. The Rte.123 and PW Parkway ramps will remain open.

Once the traffic shift is in place, southbound I-95 traffic between Rte.123 and the PW Parkway will be shifted slightly to the left until summer 2022.

The work is part of the project to create an auxiliary lane on southbound I-95 from Rte. 123 to the PW Parkway. The project is converting about a mile and a half of the existing shoulder to a travel lane, from the end of the existing entrance ramp from Rte. 123 to the beginning of the exit ramp to the PW Parkway. The auxiliary lane will make it easier for drivers to merge into and out of traffic between the ramps and free up additional room for through-drivers.

The project will also provide a new paved shoulder, relocate noise walls as needed, replace impacted roadway lighting, install or upgrade guardrails, and build new retaining walls. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2022.
