Two new state-of-the-art delivery stations for Amazon now open in Manassas and Gainesville

Amazon reports that it has officially launched two new delivery stations in Prince William County, creating more than 200 new full-time jobs that provide a competitive starting wage of $15.40 an hour and comprehensive benefits, all starting on the first day of employment. 

Both delivery stations combined will empower 12 small businesses via Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner Program, creating hundreds of full-time driver jobs.  Located in Manassas and Gainesville, the company’s new delivery stations power Amazon’s last-mile delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers in Prince William County,  and throughout Northern Virginia, further expanding Amazon’s robust logistics network in the Commonwealth.

Amazon said it is also operating seven other fulfillment and sortation centers and delivery stations in Virginia: at Ashland, Chester, Clear Brook (Frederick County), Petersburg (Dinwiddie County), Richmond, Springfield, and Sterling. 

In addition to the company’s Arlington headquarters, Amazon also has 14 Whole Foods Market locations across the state and three Prime Now Hubs in Virginia Beach, Richmond, and Springfield.

Christina Winn, Executive Director of the Prince William County Department of Economic Development, was quoted in a news release as saying, “Prince William County’s strategic location and extensive logistics infrastructure helps companies like Amazon meet their customers’ needs and deliver their products quickly and efficiently.  These new last-mile distribution facilities bring good jobs to our skilled and diverse workforce and improve service to our thriving business community.”

Jeanine Lawson, Brentsville District Prince William County Supervisor, had similar kudos for Amazon. She was quoted as saying,“Amazon is known for their ingenuity.  With these new delivery stations in Prince William County, the benefits are twofold; not only will Amazon enhance their last mile capabilities, but we’re also grateful for the new job opportunities that come with it.” 

Amazon’s Emily Hawkins said the company “is excited to continue to invest in Virginia with new delivery stations” that provide efficiency for customers, and create hundreds of job opportunities. She added, “These new delivery stations represent Amazon’s unwavering commitment to safety, technological innovation, and skilled teams who are obsessed with delivering for our customers.”

In celebration of the launch, Amazon’s 75,000 square foot Gainesville delivery station at 5533 Wellington Road provided $5,000 to Youth for Tomorrow, enabling the organization to purchase food, clothing, and other vital essentials for families in need in Northern Virginia. 

Amazon’s 164,000 square foot Manassas delivery station at 11920 Balls Ford Road donated $5,000 to K-9 Caring Angels, supporting their mission to provide highly trained, affectionate, and caring dogs to people in need.

There are 250+ Amazon delivery stations in the U.S., offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own businesses delivering Amazon packages, as well as independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss and create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex.  “Delivery stations power the last mile of our order process and help speed up deliveries for customers,” a news release said.

According to the news release, “Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon Fulfillment and Sortation Centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.  Many of Amazon’s new delivery stations are now designed to meet the needs of our electric delivery vehicles.  Ranging from the physical layout to the electrical design, these spaces are being optimized to offer flexibility and scale as we move closer toward putting 10,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road in 2022. “
     
Amazon said it leverages its scale for good and makes investments to support communities.  The company’s presence in Virginia means more than just the jobs provided within the four walls of its facilities.  In addition to full-benefit, great jobs inside the building, the company has created thousands of jobs in construction and services.  Since 2010, Amazon said it has created more than 27,000 full- and part-time jobs in Virginia and invested more than $20.6 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation.  These investments have contributed an additional $17.5 billion to the Virginia economy and have helped create more than 52,100 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services.  In addition, more than 48,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Virginia are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
