Manassas Police investigate utilities fraud case

Fraud
On December 9, 2020 at approximately 12:44 p.m., an officer of the Manassas City Police Department met with a complainant for a report of a fraud. The victim was contacted by an unknown person claiming to be with Dominion VA Power and they advised her that she had an outstanding bill of $207.00. The victim paid the fraudulent bill before contacting Manassas City Utilities to confirm the legitimacy of the bill. The victim contacted her bank and was able to cancel the payment.  Residents can review their Manassas City Utilities account online or contact Customer Service at 703-257-8219 to confirm bill status before making payments. The investigation is ongoing.

Hit and Run
On December 9, 2020 at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers of the Manassas City Police Department responded to the area of 8400 Kao Cir for a report of a hit and run. A parked and unattended vehicle was struck in a business parking lot. Video footage from the business showed a large truck struggling to move through the parking lot and it is alleged to have struck the parked vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

Larceny
On December 9, 2020 at 8:44 a.m., officers of the Manassas City Police Department responded to the 9500 block of Nittany Dr. for a report of a larceny. The victim stated that a package with computer equipment was delivered by FedEx on Dec.4th. The package was stolen that day between 12:00 and 2:30 hrs. The investigation is ongoing.
