Police make arrest in Sudley Rd./Balls Ford Rd. hit and run; one driver and vehicle still sought

UPDATE #2 Fatal Hit & Run Crash Investigation – On May 18, investigators with the Prince William County Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit identified and charged the driver of the Nissan Xterra, one of two vehicles involved in the fatal hit & run crash that occurred in the area of Sudley Rd and Balls Ford Rd in Manassas on May 6.

The driver of the Xterra is accused of striking the victim as he laid in the roadway after initially being struck by a vehicle described as a newer model, silver Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the Xterra was identified from information obtained from the service station and was determined to have been traveling to Manassas for work on the morning of the crash.

Investigators are still seeking the identity of the driver in the Toyota Corolla that initially stuck the victim. The Corolla is likely to have damage to the passenger side of the front bumper and missing the passenger side mirror. The deceased was identified as Alberto Anthony MARINO, 62, of Bristow

Fatal Hit & Run Crash Investigation *UPDATE [Previously Released] – Investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit have determined that the victim struck and killed in the area of Sudley Rd and Balls Ford Rd in Manassas on May 6 was struck by two vehicles. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, the pedestrian was initially struck by a newer model silver Toyota Corolla before the vehicle continued straight on Sudley Rd. The vehicle did not turn onto Balls Ford Rd as initially believed and reported. The vehicle will have damage to the lower passenger side bumper and will be missing the passenger side mirror. Moments after the victim was initially hit, a second vehicle struck the victim as he laid in the roadway. The second vehicle then pulled into a nearby service station where the driver was seen pumping gas before driving away from the scene a short time later. The driver was only described as a light-skinned, unknown race, male. The second vehicle was described as a mid-2000 model dark-colored Nissan Xterra. The vehicle may not have noticeable damage from the collision.

Fatal Hit & Run Crash Investigation [Previously Released] – On May 6 at 5:00AM, investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Balls Ford Rd. and Sudley Rd. in Manassas (20109) to investigate a pedestrian crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a silver colored sedan was turning west onto Balls Ford Rd. from Sudley Rd. when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing Sudley Rd not within a crosswalk. After the crash, the striking vehicle is believed to have fled westbound on Balls Ford Rd. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The investigation continues.
