Thanks to a generous donation from SWIFT, the world’s leading provider of secure financial messaging services with an office in Manassas, four City parks and three Manassas City public schools will soon benefit from more lovely trees for residents and visitors to enjoy. SWIFT is donating 100 trees to celebrate Earth Day at a time when parks and the outdoors have become an increasingly important part of daily life and places to de-stress. A ceremony recognizing SWIFT’s contribution and the company’s adoption of Cavalry Run Park, 9201 Ashton Avenue, was planned for this Earth Day on April 22, but will be rescheduled to a later date, after this crisis is over.
The 100 donated trees will have a big impact across the City. Baldwin Elementary and Metz Middle School will receive 10 trees each, while Weems Elementary will receive 28 trees. Liberia House Park, which is in the midst of outdoor restoration and garden creation, will receive 30 trees, while Mayfield Earthwork Fort will get 10 trees, Winterset Park seven trees, and Cavalry Run Park five trees.
“SWIFT is proud to support Earth Day in the City of Manassas,” says SWIFT Chief Information Officer Craig Young, who represents the Virginia Technology Center here in Manassas. “Our donation of 100 trees is a token of appreciation for the strong partnership we have had with the City and a reflection of our commitment to the community. We look forward to continued projects that directly better the environment and communities we serve.”
SWIFT will also be adopting Cavalry Run Park, located near its office. SWIFT employees join a group of companies, community groups, teams, and individuals who have adopted parks and fields in the City of Manassas and help to spruce them up during regular clean-up events. Last year volunteers donated 1,515 hours to keep Manassas City parks beautiful.
Headquartered in Belgium, SWIFT’s messaging platform, products and services connect more than 11,000 banking and securities organizations, market infrastructures and corporate customers in more than 200 countries and territories, enabling them to communicate securely and exchange standardized financial messages in a reliable way.
