Supervisor Principi to review progress on “New Woodbridge” Dec. 4 before he steps down

After 12 years of service, Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank J. Principi is inviting the public to join him for what will be his final “New Woodbridge” town hall, Dec. 4,  7-9pm at the Ferlazzo Building at 15941 Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge.

Since taking office, Principi has ushered in $1.7B in infrastructure projects, such as widening Route 1 creating the 50-mile Pedestrian & Cyclist Loop, rebuilding Kilby Elementary School and dredging Neabsco Creek Channel. The town hall—themed “Connecting to Our Future”— takes a broad look at how these and upcoming investments are transforming the Route 1 corridor and surrounding neighborhoods, as they improve mobility and set the stage for economic growth.

The event includes a preview of planned road extensions that will facilitate movement through North Woodbridge, connecting Annapolis Way to Route 123 (improving access to the 123 Commuter Lot), and Horner Road to Marina Way, creating a walkable “retail spine” leading down to the waterfront and future Fast Ferry terminal. At full build-out in 2040, this area could have nearly 9,000 new residential space, along with the first Class-A office building in Woodbridge, alongside hotel, retail, parks, schools and a library. Supervisor Principi will also share the latest progress on bringing commuter Fast Ferry to North Woodbridge.

“With a Request for Information issued by OmniRide, eight studies completed and discussions with industry players across the country, Fast Ferry is closer to becoming a reality in Prince William than ever before,” said Principi.

“North Woodbridge’s strategic location is the ideal place to catalyze revitalization in eastern Prince William County,” said Fhristina Winn, director of the Prince William County Department of Economic Development. “New mixed-use walkable, transit oriented developments will set the stage to attract a highly-educated workforce and targeted Class A office tenants to make this the next major employment corridor in the region.”

The town hall is free to attend, registration is requested: bit.ly/dectownhall. For questions, call 703-792-4646.

The vision of a NewWoodbridge was initially introduced by Supervisor Frank Principi in 2008 and calls for the transformation of the Route 1 corridor through better development, transportation, and neighborhood policy and budget choices that will result in smart growth development, high-paying jobs in Eastern Prince William, expanded roads and transit solutions, and support for our neighborhoods, schools, and parks. The vision will improve the quality of life of all residents, protect our natural resources along the Potomac and Occoquan Rivers, and create a sustainable economic engine for Prince William County.
