Former gymnastics coach charged with indecent liberties by a custodian in 2007-08

Indecent Liberties by a Custodian – In July 2019, detectives with the Special Victims Unit began an investigation into sexual abuse committed in the Haymarket (20169) area of Prince William County between August 2007 and November 2008.

Information regarding the alleged encounters were initially received through a tip to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who then notified Prince William County police of the accusations. During the investigation, Prince William County detectives determined that the victim, who was between 16 and 17 years of age at the time of the offenses, was sexually assaulted by the accused on more than one occasion during the above timeframe.

At the time of the incidents, the accused was the victim’s coach while she was undergoing training at a gymnastics center in Burke, VA. The alleged encounters reportedly took place at locations in the Haymarket area when the accused resided in Prince William County. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Sergio Rene GALVEZ, was arrested without incident on October 29, 2019.
