Engineering management workshop offered as summer camp Aug. 3-7

Fauquier County Public Schools and Defense Acquisition University will conduct an Engineering Management Workshop summer camp from August 3-7 at Kettle Run High School. The camp is for rising ninth and tenth graders.

Working on teams, participants will design, build and test a robotic vehicle using a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 kit.

Students will be introduced to and practice various engineering management skills and competencies including project management, engineering design, software development, risk management, technical reviews, configuration management, and testing.

The final day will culminate with teams demonstrating the performance of their vehicles during several test events including trial runs around a complex obstacle course.

The workshop will conclude with a source selection where team designs are evaluated based on performance, cost, producibility and supportability. One team will be declared the winner based on a best-value determination.
