Seniors in the community should mark their calendars to attend an event on Thursday, April 25, which is the day of the Senior Summit at Park Valley Church in Haymarket.
The event was coordinated by Dave Redabaugh, Legacy Group Coordinator at Park Valley Church (PVC), Allen Sibert, Chief of Police, Town of Haymarket Police Department, and Erin Combs, Marketing Director, Caring Senior Service. The Senior Summit had its first planning meeting in July.
Redabaugh explained the goal of the summit, saying, “[It is] to provide information and professional advice to the senior members of our communities through a one stop opportunity. We need resources to help in planning for living out our best life in our senior years, and the Summit is going to provide us with 60 vendors, professionals, counselors and more to give us the information we need to do exactly that.”
The senior Summit will be held in Park Valley Church’s large lobby at 4500 Waverly Farm Drive, off US 15 in Haymarket, VA 20169.
Participating vendors will help seniors with different issues they may have now or in the future. A sampling of vendors includes RBC Wealth Management, United States Attorney’s Office, Raise the Bar Fitness, UVA Community Health, William Floyd Counselling Center, Circle of Trust Senior Resources, Prince William County Government/Prince William Area Agency on Aging and Military and Veterans Affairs and Center for Combating Elder Financial Abuse.
Check in is on Thursday, April 25 between 9:15 and 9:45 a.m., with the day’s events starting at 10 a.m. “In the auditorium, the agenda for the day will be laid out by our event sponsors. Then we will hear from Jason Miyares, Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia, about senior scams, [including] how to identify them and protect ourselves from them,” said Redabaugh.
“Throughout the lobby of Park Valley Church, we will have our vendors represented at tables to provide answers to questions and information regarding their specific industry and how they work with seniors. At the same time, lunch will be provided in the lobby, as well. Our participants can enjoy their complimentary lunch from Mighty Meals of Gainesville, VA. at their leisure,” said Redabaugh. Participants will be treated to an entrée and choice of salads and pasta for lunch.
The entire day is also handicap-friendly, with walkers and wheelchairs available. The summit will end at 2 p.m.
