The Manassas City Police Department has asked for assistance from the regional Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) to oversee the investigation as an independent body due to a possible officer involved shooting.on Feb. 23, 2024 at 6:52 p.m.,
According to a news release, Manassas City Police responded to the 9200 block of Bayberry Avenue for a shots fired call. While officers were responding, the call escalated to multiple shots fired within the residence. Officers arrived on scene and attempted to enter the residence but shots were fired at them from someone inside of the residence and officers returned fire.
The subject then barricaded himself inside of the residence but surrendered to police shortly thereafter. The subject suffered a gunshot wound to the chest area and was transported to a nearby hospital for his injuries. It has not been determined at this time if the
subject’s gunshot wound was the result of officer gunfire, a self-inflicted gunshot wound, or an injury from a previous incident.
Manassas Police said Saturday, Feb. 24,the incident is currently contained, there is no active threat to the surrounding community.
