Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) will close Warrenton Middle School at the end of this school year as the school merges with Taylor Middle School.
The school has served as a high school, junior high school, middle school and elementary school in the Warrenton community for the past century. To celebrate the rich history of the Warrenton School, FCPS will host a commemorative event on May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 244 Waterloo Street in Warrenton.
All alumni, community members, students and staff are invited.
Taylor was selected as the middle school within the Town of Warrenton to be renovated and expanded, prompting the consolidation of the two middle schools. The newly consolidated Taylor Middle School will operate temporarily at the 244 Waterloo Street address (the current Warrenton Middle School location) while construction is completed at 350 E. Shirley Avenue.
The merged school will be known as Taylor Middle School, as state reporting for accreditation and assessment requires FCPS to choose one school name, according to a Fauquiwe Schools news release.
The Warrenton School commemorative event will feature tours of the current building, the digging up of a time capsule, a historical presentation, and more.
